---Character Information---
1) Name: Brigadier General Basque Grand, the Iron Blood Alchemist
2) Character Bio: Basque Grand is an honorable and devoted member of the military. A war hero and proud of it, he takes good care of his subordinates and leads from the front in times of crisis. Over the years he has maybe grown too proud of his achievements, and arrogance has crept in on his personality, making him stern and unreasonable.
3) Relationships with people: Grand has grown accustomed to getting his way with others, and his growing arrogance is beginning to make him seem stubborn. However, he tries to be honest and fair with people, especially when dealing with those who have earned his respect. The ones who earn his respect most readily are those in the military, and he is far more comfortable dealing with them than civilians. He has little patience or forgiveness for those who have turned their backs on the military he so loves.
4) Likes: Grand loves the army, and admires people of honesty and bravery. He is also something of a collector, acquiring antique weapons during his travels around Amestris. He is also fond of fine drinks, but never lets his drinking hinder his work.
5) Dislikes: Grand hates deserters and betrayers, even more so than criminals and traditional enemies of the state. He also despises pointless wars that waste the lives of his fellow soldiers.
6) History of the character: During the Ishval Civil War, then-Colonel Grand was revered and admired by his subordinates for fighting hard on the front lines. A man of courage and honor, Grand tried to arrange a quick end to the war by getting a senior Ishvalan to meet the Fuhrer. Grand's superior disliked the idea, being too committed to the massacre to want it to end peacefully. Disgusted with his superior's attitude, Grand shot and killed him in full view of the troops, none of whom objected to the Colonel's actions. Grand emerged from the Ishval War as a hero, admired for both his valor in combat, and his dislike of needless killing.
Since then, Grand has climbed to higher rank and now serves the military from Central, rather than the front lines. Sometimes he feels that his time in an office has made him soft, and that he is growing distant from the front line soldiers whose respect he once earned. He tries not to think of his glory days, and dedicates himself to whatever task the military gives him (such as overseeing the development of the philosopher's stone).
---Your Info---
1) Why do you want to be this character? In the original anime, Grand is seen as a dedicated if arrogant military man, who pursued the military's alchemic research ruthlessly. However, his background in the manga (where he kills a superior officer for not trying peace in Ishval) conjured images of a more complex war hero, making him very appealing. I want to create and play a balance of the two.
2) How far are you into the Anime? I have watched the whole original anime twice, plus the movie, and am halfway through Brotherhood.
3) How far are you into the Manga? Also about halfway through.

Basque Grand sat at his desk, a glorious view Central spread before him. It was raining in the capital of Amestris, and the dark clouds seemed to suit his dark mood. He was a war hero, the famed Iron Blood Alchemist, and yet he had been reduced to this, paperwork. A mountain of it lay stacked at his side awaiting his attention. Once he had been a warrior, proud and daring, but the rank of Brigadier General had instead turned Grand into a bureaucrat. How pathetic.
He sighed, taking a deep, resigned breath, and reached for the first bit of paperwork. It was a communique from the south, one of many that normally bored him to tears. However, the opening lines drew his attention, forcing him to sit bolt upright in his seat. He read on, quickly taking in the details, amazement and shock taking hold in his mind.
It couldn't be, he thought, it just couldn't!
