Southern Area, 21 July 1910.
"All right, saddle up boys!" David walks into the tent. All the men immediately stand up middle of the tent, some of them holding their weapons some of them not. Later then David took out a piece of paper out from his military coat and flipped it out. It was still cold and snowing in Southern Area.
"We got a job to do. Few weeks ago, one of our posts in the South has been overrun by some Auregonians bastards. The division who in charge to guard that place suffer heavy loss and they retreat here with their tails between their legs. And few minutes ago, I received this from Maj. Accernt and I know that there's something going on thus we in charge of the task." David waves the paper in his hands.
"So here's the deal; We're going to retake this forsaken point from the Auregonians, there's also other divisions join this taking-back operation. It's a full-frontal assault so you know the drill, load up ammunitions and firearms as you can. Later then assemble at the outpost, load up on the trucks and move on to the target area.
Some of the soldiers nod their head while some are speechless, saying nothing. "If there's no questions, I dismiss this briefing and one more thing..... No one dies today." David's face expression turns serious, and after the soldiers hear his last sentence, they didn't say anything but David knows that they agree that survival is futile. "Time to kick some ass, gentlemen." David smiles towards to his men and he left the tent.
The Southern Area still cold as ever, the weather never changes. Snow flakes landing on his shoulders and the rifle slung at his back, but David already get used to the snow. The battle in Southern Area is not worse as Ishval Civil War, the first great but horrified war that he ever participates. Ishvalans innocent civilians were slaughtered by the soldiers of Amestris, the Rockbell surgeons couple who David knows back in Resembool, were killed. David wishes he could find the murderer and dragged him all the way to the graveyard of the surgeons in Resembool. David miss Resembool so much, he miss the forest where he used to hunt, the food, his parents and younger sister, the Elric family, the Rockbell family and the rest of the villagers.
Speaking of Elric family, David receives transmission about that Thrisha Elric, died because of the disease during his tour of duty in Ishval. He couldn't send his condolences to the Elric brothers but he wishes that someone can take care of them, especially Rockbell family who is more close with the Elrics. Until now, there's no news about the young Elric brothers, the Rockbell family and his family too.
"Lieutenant Remington... Lieutenant Remington!" a young soldier jogs towards David with his letter sling bag. "What is it? A letter from Resembool?" the soldier nodded and handed him a letter and a large packet that is been wrapped. David quickly grab them and signaled that the soldier can be dismissed, he were do what he was told to. David quickly tears open and took out a paper from the letter, he flipped it open and begin to read the letters, it was written by her young sister Tanya:
Dear Brother,
How are you Nii-san? We hope that the cold-weather in southern didn't harm you. I'm hope you'll still strong and okay at there.
Nii-san, I'm already chose for medical course in Central because my results are great! Mum and dad was happy about it and almost the whole villagers of Resembool celebrate it! I also informed Darren-nii and Sarah-nee-san about it and they were happy too. And the little Elric brothers are training their alchemy in Dublith, I hope they're will become a great alchemists in the future!
Oh did you get the package? It's a wool scarf, made by myself! I heard that southern area are very cold until you shivered so I made this for you. And.... even though you cannot come back, mum and dad are fine here, they just hope you'll be safe in south.... We miss you, Sarah-nee-san and Darren-nii a lot, nii-san. If your birthday hasn't arrive or already pass after you received the letter, we and the villagers of Resembool wishes you a Happy Birthday.

He opened the package and indeed there's a wool scarf, it was perfectly handmade. Tears coming down from his left eye but he still smiles, "Baka....My stupid young sister..... I received it straight on my birthday..... Thank you Tanya..... Thank you...." David held tight the scarf close to his mouth. "Tanya did that scarf for you huh, Dave?" voice of his elder sister heard from behind. David quickly turn around and saw not only his elder sister but his elder brother as well. "You should appreciate it Dave."
"Nii-san, nee-san..." David relieved to see them as he walk towards them.
"Anyway, happy birthday to you Dave. Congrats on turning into 20."
"..... No gifts?"
"What?"
"Tanya sent this to me as a gift, at least you got something for me."
"Tanya still a teenager so she sent this scarf for you, we already adults now Dave."
"Haha, exactly."
Laughter around the siblings, even they are soldiers with different ranks. Suddenly, one of David's men approaches the three. "L.T... Oh, Captain Sarah Remington and Major Remington!" the soldier immediately salutes towards to David's elder siblings who hold their ranks more higher. Later then, the soldier turn towards David. "Sir, the division is already at the meeting point but only ours haven't.... because they're waiting for you sir." David places his face on his palm. "Dammit, I'm the one who's wasting time here.... Nii-san, nee-san, looks like I have to go now." "Taking-back the target area from the Aurego troops?" David nods and he quickly run with the soldier to the meeting place.
"David was more skilled than us, don't you think?"
"Yeah, I know it. He also state this to me; We siblings must fight for survival so we can return to Resembool."
