Picture: N/A
Alias: "Jim" ; Jaywood ; The Verdant Alchemist
Name: Major James Applewood
Age: 30
Gender: Male
Weight: 165 lbs
Height: 5'11"
Hair: Brown (Short and shabby resting eye level)
Eyes: Light Green (Sometimes an intense emerald color)
Personality:
James is very outgoing and enjoys being outdoors. He often chooses military expeditions that place him among the most remote region of the country. His passion is and always will be with mother nature. Nothing pleases Jim more than a hike along a mountain trail or thru a lush forest. Major Applewood has a fear of water (due to a near drowning as a child). James takes his job less serious than most 'dogs of the military', thus he has not raised to a superior rank, nor has he amassed many subordinates.
Physical Description:
Jaywood is in peak physical condition due to his love for outdoor activities. He is not a overly muscular person. He is slightly above average height at 5 foot 11 inches, but does not command a large presence. His hair is lighter shades of brown, worn loose hanging into his eyes. Behind his bangs shine lime green eyes that peirce into all that he gazes upon.
Alchemic Powers: James' powers are based in his study of botany. He can stimulate the growth of plants in a certain area. He can manipulate vines. He can cure red-water contamination on vegetation. Mostly though, his alchemic powers are not offensive. He can use alchemy as a tool in the medical field. He has researched alchemy's potential to create potions that could cure illness or fatigue or a rash. James has spanned the nation in his studies. However he has heard rumors of alchemy from outside nations that have medicinal uses as well. He wants to explore those posibilities
History:
James Abernathy Applewood was born into a modest family living in the forest mountain in the South Area. James excelled in his studies and was eventually tested for alchemic potential. It was determined that James was to become an alchemist. He began studying the areas of Alchemy that most interested him, namely "green" alchemy (that which involves plants etc...). As he grew into a teenager he developed a great desire to explore his world. He knew the best way to utilize his alchemy skills and see all of Amestris was to join the military.
He was tested for his potential once more when he entered the military as a fresh new 'state alchemist'. He found his tests rather easy. He was not an overtly offensive alchemist, however he knew how to defend himself. Jim is in peak physical condition and does not depend on his alchemy, rather his agility to fend off attacks. He impresses his superiors with his knowledge of green alchemy which could be used in a variety of intances, such as (but not limited to) neutralizing the threat of red water thru the use of vegetation.
After a couple years in the military, James had already discovered a dozen medicinal uses for alchemy, all of which derived from his botany studies. The use of plants, with or without alchemy was a revolutionary practice of medicine. James Applewood is currently the most knowledgable applicant of such alchemy.
As a young grunt in the military, James found the monotony of a 'routine' torturing. He would take leave whenever possible to return to his family or to venture on his own to some new destination. It was a carefree time for James and the military in general. It would not be so for long...
More suddenly than James could ever have expected, his military training would be of use. There was an uprising. Ishval was not merely rebelled, but provoked an unwinnable war. This seemed so out of place, he had visited many areas near Ishval as a new military officer with pleasant experiences, before the war broke out...
James was shipped to the front lines to lead a unit he had never even seen. Many of the members of this unit were older and more experienced than he, however he was the ranking officer. His unit sustained many casulatied and inflicted many more. James, however never took a life during the main fight. It was later, after his unit had been disbanded and what few men remained had been relocated, that Second Lieutenant James Applewood inflicted his first casualties of war.
James recieved word that his best friend from Officer's School was in mortal danger, leading a team into an Ishvalan ambush. Headquarters tried repeatedly to contact the team to no avail. James felt compelled to warn his dear friend and thus embarked on his most defining mission. Along the way James despaired, thinking he would never reach his friend in time to save him. He used his keen Alchemic talents to create a large carnivorious vine. He willed this plant to shoot roots and grab him, traveling as fast as utterly possible.
When he finally arrived to warn his friend and fellow officer, it was nearly too late. The ambush was underway and the military soldiers struggled to react properly. James, being the only one knowledgable and capable enough to fend off the attack, lashed out at the Ishvalan resistors. His carnivorous vine devoured the Ishvalans one by one and he was celebrated and decorated as a hero. Sadly he left that battlefront with bloody hands.
James has never lived down his actions and has never attempted to justify them. He has simply accepted them. He could not see himself doing anything other than what he felt compelled to do at that given time under those given circumstances.
Since the uprising, James has kept a low profile, raising few eyebrows and being noticed by few. He continues his research into 'green' alchemy and raises his two young boys to be upstanding.
--SAMPLE ROLEPLAY--
James scribed the tranmutation circle into the dirt. He dipped his finger into the white paint every so often to lay a thick coat. He made the paint of ivory shavings and coconut. The ground soaked concoction in like water. He laid his hand to the earth and muttered an incantation. The seal glowed green.
The landscape had once been lush and beautiful, but now was tainted by a mysterious red poison, thick like mercury and even more noxious. The alchemy began to enlarge spare surviving vegetation, which glowed green in reaction. The trees grew larger limbs the bush grew multiple leaves and the pockets of grass and ivey flourished. The ruby hue began to fade into a more emerald presence. The vegetation began to emit green glitter, all manifested by Jim's alchemy.
"Come on, you can do it!" he lightly encouraged the tainted earth to reclaim itself...
All of a sudden the land let loose a green mist of glittering alchemy. This cloud floated playfully amongst the breeze before resting solemnly along the ground. His tranmutation circle dissappeared along with the emerald hue, however the taint had been removed. Somehow he had seen these effects before, somewhere long ago. This was an intrigue and Major Applewood was going to investigate further into the cause of this blight.

Below are the rules and how my character follows them.
1. Your OC must have flaws
--- He is not an offensive alchemist. He fears water ... among other things.
2. Your OC must not be a Homunculus
--- He isn't
3. Your OC may be in love with a canon character, but you may not say the feelings are mutual
--- He's married to a non canon OC
4. An OC cannot be related to a canon character.
--- He isn't
5. No Video Game Canons.
--- Ok...
6. Your OC must use an array to perform alchemy, but feel free to be creative. THIS MEANS YOU CAN NOT HAVE SEEN THE GATE!
--- He uses normal arrays and a few of his own (no images available) ... none of that Gate business either
7. You may play a canon in addition to your OC (people who are already playing canons must keep their current character as a temp or a second permanent character. If you fail to play that character then your OC will be taken away.)
--- I'm more partial to Alphonse anyways...
8. In order to be accepted, your OC must be approved by THREE of the FIVE staff members.
--- I think I have two...
9. All weapons and powers must fit into the FullMetal Alchemist world. No demonic powers nor any special weapons (e.g. Inuyasha's Tetsusaiga)
--- He uses alchemy to create weapons. He is not a one weapon guy or someone who uses weapons alot.
10. Your character may have arrays tattooed on their body, but it may only be on one part of the body (i.e. hands, feet, one arm, one leg, etc.)
--- No tats
11. All alchemy powers must be original. No copying canon character powers (e.g. only Scar can blow people's brains up and only Kimblee can turn people into bombs)
--- Manipulation of plants is original enough (Fake Elric Brothers kinda hinted that was their powers)
12. The military may have swords. However, when on duty, they may not use their swords. They must use military weaponry.
--- Again ... he isn't a big weapon guy
13. Alchemy MUST be with a physical element and must fit within alchemy laws. (I didn't think I had to put this since everyone has seen the show and it's a rule of the show)
--- I assume his powers are possible...
