LYRA
As with most big cities, the streets of Central were usually crowded with frantic, busy people trying to get to wherever they were headed. But today that wasn't the case; the streets were practically empty--only a few people were scattered on the roads. Considering that it was late in the evening and that rain was pouring down onto the city, this wasn't too surprising. Mostly everyone was closed up in their homes, protected from the heavy precipitation.
Lyra was running down a virtually empty street at great speed, almost completely out of breath. The ebony-haired young woman finally ceased her rushing, stopping in front of a large bookstore. She was breathing heavily, hands clutched onto her exposed knees. "Please, tell me you're open.." she begged, finally looking up; unfortunately, she raised her head to find a large CLOSED sign hanging on the establishment's door. "Oh, no..."
She sighed heavily and headed under the bookstore's awning to protect herself from the rain. Unfortunately, she was already sopping wet. Lyra frowned in disappointment, wondering why she was even in Central in the first place. Oh, yes: to pick up some texts to be used in her studies under Lady Dante. Seemed simple enough, so why did it go horribly wrong? She got lost in the rain; and when she finally found the store, it was closed! And she didn't have a place to spend the night, either!
"Why me?" groaned Lyra as she sat down and wrapped her arms around her knees, losing herself in self-pity.
