Picture: Okay, sorry it's taking so long, but I'm still working on her picture. (I'm hand drawing it in photoshop, cause I was unable to scan in the origional drawing.) I can post what I have done on her face, but the shading and major detail development is not finished, so bear with me. If you don't mind, I might post a few additional pictures that resemble the character for reference.
Here we go, sorry, she's not shaded or anything. She's been quite the pain... (Also, I had to draw the shawl over her right arm. I wanted to draw her arm, but it's taking too long at the moment, so this is only temporary.)
Hope you like it, I'll post the finished picture once it's done.
Alias: Leo, Little Lion, Tiny Paws, The Muncher, Runner (Due to excessive traveling, she has earned multiple nicknames from her loud personality. Rouin is unsure of why people relate her to these names, as she is mostly unaware of her noisy personality.)
Name: Rouin Maes Gryphon (Legally changed from her birthname Rouin Dawn Drifter.)
Age: 12 - 14 (Or older depending on time of roleplay, as the character obviously has to grow and age. Her birthday is August 20, but she does not like to share her age, or birthday, as she does not enjoy celebrating it for personal reasons. Rouin's picture depicts her at about age 14 -15.)
Gender: Female
Weight: 70.4 (She's underweight due to her difficult experiences, excessive travel, and lack of sleep. On another note, she does grow as well.)
Height: 4' 6" (Or if you like, 4.5 feet, or 54 inches. Depends on time of roleplay.)
Hair: Light Brown, cut short, allowing her hair to lightly brush her shoulders. She has no part, and covers her eyebrows with thick bangs that tend to clump. As her hair is cut unevenly, the parts in front of her ears are longer than the back, adding to her scruffy appearance. Because her hair grows in thick, it sits straight down on her head, keeping flyaways down. Sadly, her picture does not accurately depict her on most days, she's a lot more messy.
Eyes: Golden Brown (Goldenrod when her mood changes.)
Personality: Rouin is very kind at heart, always attempting to be the 'hero' and save people from any kind of misfortune. She is always most likely to take the most direct course of action to solve a problem, seeing order and government as 'time wasters'. Sometimes, this may lead to difficulties in battle, as Rouin will take the most aggressive stance, eagerly taking any strike on her own body to protect others.
She is openly aggressive to others that attempt to aid her, as she hates when people try to take pity on her. Rouin often acts as if she needs nobody else, that they would slow her down in her travels. In truth, she is mortally afraid of being rejected or brutally abandoned. Having been alone since a very young age, she feels uncertain in people, and believes that once attached to somebody, they will leave her or harm her.
Despite her rough history, Rouin is extremely prideful, as she taught herself how to survive alone in extreme conditions, and how to fight well in combat. She has spent many years on the road, and enjoys the always shifting deserts. She fears frost, as she has little to protect herself against the cool winds, but in the case of heat, Rouin easily navigates speedily through the dunes. She enjoys boasting to companions her good feats, claiming that she could survive well, even if she was the last human on the planet.
In the case of combat, Rouin is pretty handy to have around, she is tough, and strong willed. Often unwilling to admit defeat, she would rather loose a limb than surrender to an enemy. Rouin can be rebellious, and divert from a well laid plan to follow her own course of action if she feels the plan 'inadiquate'. She is usually found in situation that are far too difficult for her to 'chew', as she often feels that she is alone, and the only hero to stop the wrongs of the world.
At awkward moments, Rouin has a tendency to revert to a childlike state, acting overexcited for simple subjects such as food, toys, clothes, candy, pets, ect. Leading most companions to believe she is merely simple minded, she takes the oportunity to disguise her true feelings on a complicated matter, especially in situations that make her feel sad.
Rouin often feels distant from others, having substantial difficulty understanding others, or expressing herself. Having been on her own for so long, she feels a disconnect and has a hard time understanding 'normal'. Rouin was raised in a very rural village, as there was little technology. She has never seen a train, ridden in a car, spoken on a phone, or seen a light turn on without fire until she leaves the desolate area she was brought up in. She often fears such creations, as she understands little of their mechanics.
Most people have difficulty understanding Rouin, her reactions to objects are often noisy, her moods become unpredictable in the midst of others family, and she refuses to explain her actions or past unless in dire circumstances. She can be crude and cruel, and often does not realize her words are not typical for someone of her age.
Another strange contrast to Rouin would be the simple fact that she truly wants nothing more than a friend to trust and follow. She acts untrusting and aggressive for fear of loosing yet another companion, as she fears abandonment, but in truth she hates being alone. If she was to meet somebody she truly attached to, she could become clingy and desperate for attention, her fearsome and needy self would be revealed.
Physical Description: Rouin has a light tan on her caucassion skin, surprising considering her extreme traveling though the desert. However, Rouin has ways of covering most of her body to prevent dark tans and burning.
A red babydoll t-shirt and tight white shorts are her usual apparall, the shirt is relatively plain, but the shorts have two brown leather straps that have been stiched into the sides of the seams.
She always has a long white shawl and scarf adorning her shoulders; Rouin simply refuses to take them off. The shawl is plain, having been cut down the front middle to separate allowing for more movement, while a small button at the top keeps it closed. The scarf is mostly white, two red stripes have been painted on either end, and on the middle.
Her hands are well protected by simple leather fingerless gloves, and she wears brown leather shoes that appear as if they were once boots (Rouin cut off the tops of the boots and fashioned them into gloves and side seaming for her shorts, she felt the need to adjust her clothes as she could not afford to buy more.) at one point.
Finnaly and perhaps the strangest addition to Rouins style would be her stockings, they are thickly woven and large, reaching past her knees. They are striped red and white, a blaring statement in fashion... however, they are kept down and allowed to collect at the bottem, resting along the tops of her shoes. She is known to pull them up during traveling, as while she runs, her legs are prone to injury or burning.
Her body is not only small for her age, she is incredibly thin, but hides the effects of the malnutrition well. Her ribs show quite badly, yet it is well covered from the shirt and shawl. People might question the fact that her knees and elbows show badly, but Rouin attempts to dissuade the observers.
Carrying a generally scruffy appearance, Rouin is often covered with sand or dirt, and has many scrapes and cuts along her limbs. She is very careful to never show the scars on her back, feet, and right arm, as it suggests the manner of cruelty her father used on her.
History:
Birth: Rouin was born to a woman named Hisasha Nene Gryphon and a man named Alluvion Nereas Drifer in a rural village far from Liore, weighing a mere 5.34 pounds. Giving her the birthname Rouin Dawn Drifter, her father lied to her mother and told her that she had died during the birth. Divorcing Rouin's origional mother, he chased her away and soon remarried to Helena Lillian Sieren, a woman whom he'd had an affair with during his relationship with Hisasha. To cover up the fact that he had stolen Rouin from her mother, Helena claimed that she was Rouin's mother.
Ages 1-4: Rouin was a tiny child, still weighing a mere 17.64 - 29.4 in ages 1-4. Alluvion had started to continue his research, traveling often, leaving Helena alone with the baby. Helena quickly tired of caring for Rouin, neglecting her to continue her art. Rouin soon began to cry often, earning concern from the neighbors, as they noticed the childs deteriorating condition, but knew of nothing they could do.
Once the child could speak, she often startled her mother, as what she said was unusual for children her age. She had a difficult time speaking openly to others, but she would often tell Helena about 'friends' that she had. Helena often dismissed the claims upon a childs creative imagination, for the only other children in the area were teens that had no interest in the tiny child.
To her mothers concern, Rouin began to name the strange people, her favorite she called Shanaura, or the Nightmare. After a talk with her father, Helena brought Rouin to a counceller for help, but to no avail, as Rouin continued to speak of her friends and the counceller could not tell Helena if there was something wrong.
At age four, Helena discovered that Rouin often snuk around the basement, digging through the boxed items. She attempted to catch Rouin in the act, hoping to bring an end to Rouins' 'friends'. To her horror, she did find Rouin speaking in the basement to her imaginary friends, but she heard a second voice responding to her daughters. She wrote a message to her father who was in Central at the time, but could find no other proof of the friends existance, for when she came down the stairs, Rouin stopped talking, and the second person had left.
Age 5: Before Helena could express much more concern for her daughters secret friend, the doctors had discovered a deadly cancerous brain tumor. She had to send for Rouins' father, his return allowing her rest in hopes of recovery. By the time Alluvion had returned, her situation had changed, and it was obvious that he would not be able to leave her or Rouin.
Within two months, Helena violently passed (Her mother died from thelness, but the mannerism of her death was quite brutal, and I think it's a little too dark to post on here.) with Rouin nearby, scarring Rouin with the memory of her father discovering her mother's corpse. Rouin had become distant and shy, making her an easy target for bullies. Nonetheless, her father pursued his research in Alchemy, often leaving her alone at home.
Out of loneliness, Rouin continued to speak to her friend Shanaura, who actually was an eight year old girl from within the neighborhood. Shanaura was horibbly deformed, and was not allowed to speak to the townspeople, so she would sneak out and into Rouins' basement to talk. Their meetings became increasingly difficult when Alluvion decided to give up on his work from multiple failures, and return home.
Age: 6 Alluvions' homecoming was not pleasant for Rouin, he had become excessively depressed from his failures and the death of his favored wife. In order to negate the feelings that constantly pushed him to feel inadiquate, he began abusing Rouin, turning his anger into rage to attack his daughter.
Despite Shanaura's constant insisting that Rouin did not deserve the treatment, Rouin continued to take the abuse without complaint, seeing the beatings as punishment for her own shortcomings. She attempted her best at perfection, seeking to please her father so that he would one day appreciate her existance.
Age 7-8: Having suffered more than three years of excessive abuse from her father, Rouin continued to follow her fathers every word. Durning one of his drunken rampages, he attacked Rouin with a pocket knife, and a white pistol. The pistol, which had been aimed at her head, conveniantly jammed, saving Rouin from an untimely death. The knife, however, was used to carve a simple transmutation circle into her back, along with many other scars (Which still remains, despite her many attempts to claw or burn it off). His obsession had turned to madness, and Shanaura begged that Rouin run away, even at the cost of the two never meeting again.
Rouin could not muster the strength or courage to run away until the sudden death of her friend. Shanaura's body was found in the water, beaten, shot, and drowned. Fearing a similar fate, Rouin took the old white pistol and ran away in the dead of night, hoping to find a safe place to live in.
Age: 9-12 Having made her escape, Rouin quickly realised that nearby towns were not safe for her, as her father may come to claim her. She hoped to cross the desert and reach Liore, then perhaps hitch a ride on one of the legendary steel horses (meaning train, Rouin is not well submerced with technology) she had heard so much about. Looking back, Rouin soon noticed that she had no real goals of her own, anything she had ever done up until now was to appease her always manic father.
Feeling that she was empty, she began to wander from city to city with no primary goals, doing simple work to earn money and hiding out behind the backs of resteraunts to grab unwanted food before it hit the garbage. She sought a place to heal, wanting to find a family to love and protect, but only met with tragedies, as the only people she met with were criminals who saw her as a petty theif.
Having little else to do, she began to take an interest in solving crimes, as it was the only thing that seemed to follow her reguardless of her path. She made herself a simple nickname in trade and small villages, hence 'tiny paws' and 'little lion', as few expected this scruffy child to be a miniature warrior.
During her travels, she happened to meet Elanorah Nekura, a cruel and sadistic woman who never felt the need to explain her movements. Elanorah quickly became an enemy for Rouin, as she was often associated with the local menaces, for means of one day obtaining the philosophers stone. Barely able to defeat this womans ploy for power, she was never given answers, Elanorah merely insisted that more questions run through her mind.
Elanorah pointed out many of the military's shortcomings, and strange covers of tragedies, explaining that she was not the person to fear, or to track. Now curious as to the military's faults, Rouin set out to better understand these mysteries (Humonculous, chemara, philosophers stone, the siege of Ishbul, ect.) and expose them to the people. She allowed Elanorah to leave, as she saw no real way to detain her, or pull any more vital informaiton from her.
During her fight with Elanorah, she happened to save a teddybear hampster during the commotion, who nobody claimed. Due to loneliness, Rouin kept the hampster, calling him Ein (For Einstien, a practical joke, as she believes the hampster to be intelligent for his species, and simply too short to be the whole man, hence 'Ein'.), and often speaks to him from loneliness.
Now twelve, and still relatively alone, Rouin was forced to adapt fast. As she drew closer to central, she continued to face new technology, stronger criminals, and deeper mysteries. She often feared that she would never bring meaning to her life, and that she will never find a trusted companion to follow.
Other:
Alchemy: Her understanding of Alchemy is very small, as the majority of her lessons came from her fathers beatings and tests. Rouin barely understands the rules, believing that 'equivalent exchange' does not exist, as she has given up many things, and gotten little back. Her transmutations are rare, but often violent, as she is mostly unable to combine her thoughts with the materials to shape them, mere displays of her hidden anger and deprived life. She has never made a complete transmutation, spare the times when she was six, and had created a miniature lion, and when she was nine, and had created a tiny statue of the 'Nightmare'.
Current Family: Rouin is constantly on the move, as her father Alluvion is still actively searching for his missing daughter, despite the fact that she has been gone now for five years. Her real mother is still alive, and she lives far away (I haven't figured out which location I want her to be yet, but I'll get there). Rouin has no idea that Helena is not her real mother.
Pet: Ein is nothing but a simple peach colored long hair hampster, yet Rouin claims he is smart. Ein often escapes from cages and is found usually hiding in Rouins' pockets, as if he insists that he travels with her. He also has a tendency to wave at people as she walks through towns, and has a natural knack for finding food in the desert for Rouin. Most people disbelieve Rouins' claims, seeing them as childish lies and fantasy, but Ein dissagrees. ;D
Weapon: Rouin's simple white pistol barely works, and Rouin refuses to get a new one, even if she could afford one. The pistol was conveniently jammed when her father held it to her head and tried to shoot, giving Rouin the idea that it doesn't want to hurt her, that it's a guardian of some kind. It often breaks or jams, but has a tendency to work at the strangest of times.
Food: As we are all interested in food, I gave Rouin favorite foods, quite fitting really, as you can't have people without food. Rouin loves steak, and sushi, she also enjoys peaches, but her favorite food ever would have to be a simple bowl of cereal, cornflakes and honey.
Lifestyle: Rouin is a scrapper, but not a theif. The only food she ever got from resteraunts was the stuff the cheffs where going to throw away. She feels that it's not garbage until it hits the can. Rouin also walks everywhere she goes, and repairs all of her own clothing, as she has no money to buy new ones.
--SAMPLE ROLEPLAY--
Rouin pulled herself up from the ground, allowing bits of frozen sand to fall from her hair, her body shivered as she realized she must have feinted during her long treck through the desert. Looking up at the sky, somewhat in a dizzy stupor, she saw the stars in their dazzling array among the clouds. From the aches in her legs, she could tell she must have been asleep for quite a while. Standing up, she dusted off her shorts and shawl in a futile effort to keep them clean.
"E-Ein?! Where are you?" Rouin asked nervously, as she realized she may have collapsed on her puny comrade. Her worry was quickly ceased, as she pulled the fuzzy ball from her pocket unharmed. Ein only gave a glare in responce, then slowly retreated back to the comforts of her pocket.
Shaking her hair back into place, she continued her aimless journey through the desert. Jogging, she pondered the goal of her quest, as she had no definite direction. The dunes provided little assistance, but she eventually figured Liore as her best chance for nearby answers.
Rouin had been running for days, time had become meaningless to her, but she was sure she hadn't seen anybody else in at least a month. Food and water were of little concern for her, she had lived this way for about five years, and she knew just about every secret the barren wastelands had to offer. In fact, she knew they weren't as barren as everyone thought they were, life flourished throughout the desert, it just wasn't the lifestyle the city people enjoyed.
Wasting energy to kick the sand as she ran, she enjoyed watching the golden dust disperse amongst the purple fingers of the night. To Rouin, this was no cursed empty wilderness, this was freedom and all of it's glory. The pain in her legs and stomach in no way detoured her attention to the shimmering landmass as she ran to Liore.
"Ein, do you think they have food there? Maybe a lot of food! There's supposed to be some kind of priest guy that can make food apear out of thin air... maybe he'll make some for us!" She stopped short in her tracks as she felt her stomach lurch. "Ungh... maybe not food... let's not talk about food, okay Ein?"
Ein ignored her comments as usual, taking her stop in movement as an oppertunity to stick his head out of her pocket and stare at his new surroundings. He didn't mind what it looked like, as it changed every day. He just liked knowing where he would be if he happened to fall from her pocket.
Rouin began to continue jogging, until a sudden frozen wind blew across the dunes, sending shivers through Rouins body. Now running, she hoped to evade the sudden storm, but she knew it was too late. The storm had been coming since that morning, and she had planned to outrun it to a shelter, but she had feinted from exhaustion. Crossing her arms, she continued to march through the dunes, until she finnaly fell to her knees.
"W-why, why does i-it hav-ve to b-be so cold?! It's n-not even winter..." Crouching low she decided to wait out the storm, as she was to weak to run through the sinking dunes during the frost. "I-It'll be w-warm by the m-morn-ning." She said as she layed down hunched over, wishing she was a hampster, as Ein was safe within her pocket, warm and cozy.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Alright, I know that the rules for the rp sample said that it should be just your character. I know I may have pushed it a little, as Ein is a hampster, and a second character. I hope that is within your rules, as Ein is as much of a part of this character as the color of her hair.
On another note, I saw a lot of approved characters that had this, so I'll post it too, just to make sure I'm not breaking any rules.
1. Your OC must have flaws
Just in case nobody noticed, Rouin is not perfect. She is angry, prideful, at times easily confused, and even clingy. Rouin has the tendency to act like an abandoned puppy, wanting attention, and envying those who have love and family. If the flaws must be physical, Rouin also has plenty of those. She is malnurished, small, and has many fractured bones and scars. She may be strong, but she will rarely deliver a powerful punch. Her greatest physical feat would be her teeth. ;D
2. Your OC must not be a Homunculus
She's not, and that's good. Though she is a needy kid.
3. Your OC may be in love with a canon character, but you may not say the feelings are mutual
She probably wouldn't fall in love with anyone, but she may care for certain characters more than some (To be honest, nobody's ever made me think of that.), and hate other characters. Ex: She'll enjoy Edward and Alphonse Elric, Winry, Riza, and Hughes.
4. An OC cannot be related to a canon character.
Nope, not a single chromosome comes from a canon. People need to start getting more creative and stop saying they're related to the popular guys .
5. No Video Game Canons.
She's no videa game canon, but I'm working on a manga, so she may someday become a canon of another anime, but that's years in the future, and I'll have all of the copyrights... if it ever happens. Here's to hopes and dreams .
6. Your OC must use an array to perform alchemy, but feel free to be creative.
--THIS MEANS YOU CAN NOT HAVE SEEN THE GATE
Rouin has never seen the gate, is suprised she is still alive, and would like to keep it that way. She has no intention of seeing a gate. She uses an array, usually following simple techniques, but rarely brings it into combat.
7. You may play a canon in addition to your OC (people who are already playing canons must keep their current character as a temp or a second permanent character. If you fail to play that character then your OC will be taken away.)
I play as Barry the Chopper, kindof a crazy difference, the awe inspired drifter verses the manic butcher. I'm over excited, and hope to enjoy the different character sets. Hopefully within the next week or so, I'll be looking for a second cannon character to keep or temp, as I've watched more of the anime, and understand more about the characters.
8. In order to be accepted, your OC must be approved by THREE of the FIVE staff members.
That's alright with me, I hope you guys are alright with the application, I put a lot of work into her, and I hope she's acceptible. To be completely honest, I really adore this character, she's a simple creation that's been in the back of my mind, but I want her to do well, hopefully amount to something more than random doodles and whatnot . It seems that the rules have changed lately, so I'll just let you mods handle that. Good luck!
9. All weapons and powers must fit into the FullMetal Alchemist world. No demonic powers nor any special weapons (e.g. Inuyasha's Tetsusaiga)
She's got an old rusted pistol with an attitude. I don't think it's demonic, or stupid.... just advanced. (Zim and Gir reference if anybody watches Invader Zim.) Aside from that, I don't really think that her hampster is considered a weapon. He bites, but usually only on food. Just make sure you don't look tasty. ;D
10. Your character may have arrays tattooed on their body, but it may only be on one part of the body (i.e. hands, feet, one arm, one leg, etc.) A simple transmutation circle is scarred onto her back, I'll have more information on it later. It's placed in the center of her back two inches down from where her ribs meet her spine. It has a four inch diameter, and very few details. I'm not sure how exactly I want it to work just yet, but I'm learning fast, and hopefully will have more details for you later. Until then, the character will avoid using transmutation all together, as she is not well immersed in the study. (Something that will hopefully change as she grows, but it's not necessary, as life is possible without alchemy.)
11. All alchemy powers must be original. No copying canon character powers (e.g. only Scar can blow people's brains up and only Kimblee can turn people into bombs)
At the moment, she has no alchemic power, spare maybe the most basic understanding, and maybe the ability to use simple transmutation circles to make things like a clay horse, or copper rings. (Somewhat like how the Elric brothers did when they were first learning about alchemy.) Until I figure out a power that is reasonable and fits the character, she will mostly abstain.
12. The military may have swords. However, when on duty, they may not use their swords. They must use military weaponry.
Rouin has been accused of sharpening her teeth, but they don't really count as swords. She's also not with the military. (Yet, she might join later, I don't know how I want this all to play out just now.)
13. Alchemy MUST be with a physical element and must fit within alchemy laws. (I didn't think I had to put this since everyone has seen the show and it's a rule of the show)
I'll figure that out later, for now, she's just a simple drifter with an unorthidox attitude.
Heh, sorry 'bout the smileys towards the end... I got bored.
Also, for some reason, the spell check wont work on this post, so I tried to run most of the words through Google and Word, I'll just hope for the best, sorry if anything's misspelt or hard to understand. Good luck!!

New:
Sorry again, but for some reason, I can't find a way to respond to my thread, so I'll just reply here. (I can still post on other threads, just not this one...)
Rouin's Alchemy: I ran a check with a mod on transmutation circles, and as it turns out, my origional idea ran too close to Scars ability. Until I figure out something new, she'll mostly go without.
Ein the Hampster: Ein can't transform, have no worries 'bout that. He's actually based off of my real hampster, who has a knack for getting out of his cage and stealing keys (Among other things). Ein mostly helps me give Rouin more dialog, as without her companion, she would either start talking to herself, or give up on speaking at all, as she spends months at a time without running into someone that wants to speak with her.
Character Comments and Approval: Just so you all know in case you haven't noticed, I now play as Barry the Chopper! BWAHAHAHA!! (Sorry hyper) He's been approved as my first permanent canon character, and I can now rp in the threads! Now this character is truly ready for review and comments, thank you for all of the early suggestions and assistance. Good luck to you all, until next time.
