Skimming through the dunes, Rouin could feel sand inside her shoes as she walked. The gritty feeling against her small leathery feet was uncomfortable, but she was unwilling to stop to take them off. The sun was centered against the deep blue sky, and Rouin could feel the heat prying into her head like greedy fingers searching for water. Still she traveled through the heat of day, whatever the sun had to offer had to be better than what the chills of the night had in store.
She had been wandering the desert alone for three weeks now, and was desperate for attention of any sort. Keeping only her hamster as a companion, she dreaded the silence, and wanted to hear the voice of another. In the end, she did not know what to expect as she scanned the dunes for Liore, as she had no idea what to say.
Rouin suddenly picked up the pace when she thought she heard people, she forgot her tired feet and dashed from dune to dune, but only to find thin vultures picking over the carcass of a mule. Disappointed, she sat down and observed the carnage.
'I must be nearby...' she thought, 'mules don't travel alone, they have people that watch them.'
She grimaced as she used her left hand to push herself back up to her feet, as she had forgotten in her hope that her arm was still wounded. Rouin did not understand the effects of frostbite, all she knew was that her arm still remained a sickly yellow hue ever since she had passed out during the night in the frost. Hoping to counter the pain, she wrapped her scarf around her afflicted arm, then continued her search for Liore.
As time passed, the miniature drifter began to panic, as the pain refused to subside, and she had no clue where she was. The only food she had was from roots she found buried underground, and those were becoming more sparse with each passing mile, as not even cacti would grow in this desolate land. Hoping to postpone her worry, she slipped her hamster, Ein, out of her pocket. He offered a quick clean of his own face, and a curious stare as he demanded food. Rouin placed Ein back in her pocket, as she had nothing to give but a pleading look.
Within moments, fear had found its way again into her head, and she began to search for yet another clue to lead her to her destination. Stopping slowly, she came across two huge slabs of metal that ran in two directions for many miles, and several slabs of boards running perpendicular to the slabs of metal. Rouin had no idea what to think of this strange contraption, perhaps it was a road of some sort. (Ooc: Just in case anyone did not understand the description, the slabs of metal and wood is a railroad. Rouin has never seen a railroad or a train for that matter.)
"E-Ein, what are these?! They're huge!" She squeaked to her furry friend, but Ein only rolled over in her pocket in response. Sitting down next to the slabs, she gave them a gentle nudge before following them.
Despite her new aid from the steel road, Rouin felt that Liore was nowhere near, and could feel exhaustion overtaking her. Her knees gave in, and she collapsed upon the steel road, hoping to obtain more energy at dusk. She had no idea that perhaps someone would find her in her predicament, or that a train could show up to make her day more of a headache.

Hoenheim!-------------
Hoenheim had just started out on one if his errands and it was around midnight. He was always in his disguise these days, which was a tan full length cloak and hood, a white scarf To protect the lower half of his face and goggle for his eyes. He walked with a severe stoop so that he was nearly half as tall as he should have been, and he supports his weight with a staff of beachwood. He had been walking now for close to three hours and dawn was not far off, but he carried no torch. His goggles lenses, after many years of research and testing, turned the invisible rays of ultraviolet and infra-red into visible spectrum light by changing the wavelength of the photon. He was currently developing a goggle that would change the heat energy given off by objects into visible spectrum light, but there was only minimal sucsess so far. Hoenheim had been contemplating the differences between thermal photonic energies and was close to a solution when he heard a tiny moan. He had been following the railway out of liore and going south and now he was close to twenty miles out from town(he had quit hobbling about two miles from town and had been run-walking ever since). He looked across the tracks and saw a lump on the ground partially coverd with sand, probly just a mailbag... But still, they down usually fall off the train. Hoenheim crossed the tracks to take a look when another moan came from the lump, Hoenheim stopped walking and leaped to the lump, dislodging the sand that had been obscuring the legs and arms of what was obviously a little girl. "Dear lord!" Hoenheim looked around for tracks of the little girl and found them. She had been walking miles south... Away from liore. Hoenheim felt badly for the girl... What would possess her to leave the city and wander around in the desert? Hoenheim knelt down and held a water skin to her lips squeezing a few drops into her mouth he waited for her response... And he wondered what was that squeaking and clawing sound?

As the water fell into her mouth, Rouin stirred slightly, then her eyes flashed open and she grabbed the water skin and chugged it down quickly, choking as she swallowed. Realizing that she was no longer alone, a look of panic spread across her face as she stared up at her strange new company. She struggled to move away, jumping to her feet, and hopping back several feet before falling back to her knees, still holding the last of the water in her left arm.
"Who?! Wait -what are you?! You're huge!! Did you make this metal road? What are you doing here?"
She seemed to calm after asking her frenzy of questions, but it seemed that the combination of weakness and dehydration had made her delusional, as she began to speak to herself, keeping her right hand in her pocket.
"Ein? Ein are you okay? What do you think Ein? He's a very big man... and he has bug eyes. Maybe the huge bugeyed man has food for us."
Smiling, she turned her attention back to Hoenheim, now rubbing her discolored left arm with her gloved right arm. "So, mister bug man, do you have food? We demand food because you woke us up; we were very tired!"

Hoenheim sat there stunned, regular people didn't just fall over from hunger and thirst and then bounce up at their own free will. But Hoenheim knew that if he said one word that even sounded like hospital the little girl would run away. Then he laughed, "I guess I have some spare bacon and and a loaf of bread..." he said, " but why on earth are you in the middle of the desert with just a hampster?" Hoenheim reached I to a pack full of alchemy supplies and did a quick transmutation to make the bacon and bread, and as a quick after thought said "oh look it's some cheese!" and made that too. He took it all out and broke the bread, handing half to the girl and then some bacon and finally all of the cheese. After he had alchemicaly replenished the water he asked "How did you come to be here?"

Rouin calmed down slowly, growing accustomed to the mans appearance, then wasted no time to choke down the bread and bacon, giving her pet bits of the cheese and crumbs from the bread. She pulled Ein out of her pocket and watched him eat before finally answering Hoenheim's question.
"I walked! Ein and I walk everywhere. You had to walk to get here too, right?" She smiled as she rose to her feet again, outstretching her arms because of dizziness, then set to observing him again.
"You know, Ein's more than just a hamster, he's really smart. And he's my friend. But anyway, I'm heading to Liore. I heard there's a priest guy that can do the same thing you just did! If he can, he'll make food for us, and we might find work to do. But... if he can't, we'll have to expose him as a fraud."
Rouin pocketed her hamster again, then gave Hoenheim a curious look.
"So, why are you here? And why are you asking so many questions? I belong here! I've been here for a long time, but you look strange, I don't think you belong."

There was something enchanting about this little girl, something that softened his heart. She was right about him not belonging, but how did she know? "Your a smart little girl aren't you? Let's just say I have more right to be here than almost anyone currently alive, but I choose to hold myself apart from these people. I am a scientist, a researcher whom has grown disenchanted with some the militarys choices, and I am passively taking action to stop an evil plan to destroy all of Amestris... Ha ha ha ha!" the laugh hoenheim gave was gentle yet slightly bitter at his lonely position. Then what girl said struck home, Hoenheim suddenly became very grave, and he spoke with a low tone... "little girl you are wise, beyond your years, about this 'holy man' you seek. I myself came to investigate certain... er... aspects of his divinity and the results are not flattering for him. I believe he is using a type of science called alchemy, just like what I did. But what he is doing is wrong... he is breaking the laws of alchemy by using a forbidden science, its kind of like cheating on a test but worse." here hoenheim puased and drew a circle in the sand. "This circle represents equivalent exchange: If you wish to get something you must first give something up." he he drew two trianglesand a circle connecting them. "The triangle represents the material Sylica-Ferris-Oxide, or sand. I am using alchemy here to remove the ferris-oxide, or rust, and invert the molecular bond to make silica-oxide which is commonly referred to as glass. Now watch..." The sand below hoenheims hand began to slowly change color, from a dusky yellow to a deep ruby color. Hoenheim was performing the transmutation very slowly so the girl could see what he was talking about. After a moment of color change the red hue changed to a deep yellow and then all the way to clear. The sand, now perfectly clear, began to pool together and form a small shape. As the glass took shape you could see little paws ans even the pattern of hair hair on the surface. Just as the transmutation was finishing there was a small flick of alchemical lightning, then there was just a perfect little glass replica of Ein. " that should fetch you a pretty penny in Liore..." he said waiting for her response.

Rouin watched Hoenhiem perform his alchemy, not missing a single moment, then carefully picked up the replica of Ein.
"I ... I really like it. Can I have this one? We don't have to sell it right?" She said beaming, then slowly considered Hoenhiems words.
All of Amestris? That's pretty bad... especially all on your own." She paused for a moment to set Ein next to the model, then returned her attention to the tall blond. "So, the priest in Liore is wrong... doesn't he know that playing with those kind of forces are bad? They might kill him, or worse... and anyone he's near could get injured."
She again became distracted by her hamster and the glass figure, her thoughts still seem to circulate in her head as she considered something. Finally reaching a conclusion, she put Ein back in her pocket, and held the model in her hands.
"Well, I guess I have no choice, I'll have to escort you to Liore and help you take down the priest. The people wont be happy, probably not even if we were to show them he was wrong, but it's the right thing to do, especially if it could save lives. After that, you'll probably need my help stopping the destruction of Amestris. You might be a scientist, and quite a good alchemist, but you're no good on your own. Anyone with any kind of brains would know that you're wrong about alchemy."
With that pompous statement, she turned around to follow the tracks, then suddenly stopped midway.
Er, hey wait a minute, you didn't answer my other questions! Why do you have bugeyes? Were you born with them, or did you make them with alchemy? And did you build this metal road? What's it for? And what's your name? I'm in charge, so you're gonna have to answer my questions before we can get started on defeating the bad guys."
She balled up her right arms tiny fist and looked Hoenheim right in the eye to show she was serious.

Hoenheim couldnt help but smile. Taking off his goggles he handed them to her, he really didn't need them anymore since the moon out and full and shining beautifully down on the sand. "These are called I.S. goggles, they let you see in the dark. Try them on, they also kep the sand out of you eyes..." Hoenheim was delighted in his newfound ally but was also worried. He wasn't yet ready to topple Cornello's empire, but how could he tell the kid that? Hoenheim had an idea, "Not yet, we can't attract to much attention and if we just call him on his bluff then he will call us blasphemers... What do you thinkwe should do?"

Ignoring Hoenheim's question, Rouin slipped the goggles upside down onto her face, then laughed.
"Ha! I like them. So they're is goggles? Nice! I like them a lot! They is goggles! Ha ha! What a funny name!"
She ran around in circles around Hoenheim, then eventually fell flat on her bottom in front of him, and took them off.
"Hmmmm now I hadn't really thought about that. I was hoping he was just a good alchemist, and that the rumors were just jealous people. Still, nonetheless, I have to do something to stop him."
She pulled out Ein and nodded, watching him clean his face as if she could get answers from the fuzzy critter. She then stood up, and slipped him back, and began to rub her discolored left arm.
"It'll be rough, and take quite a while, still the most important thing would be to not reveal that we oppose him. The hardest part will be for you, I have no reputation in Liore, no reputation really to speak of anywhere for that. On the other hand, you probably do, so you'll have to go in disguise. Don't go telling everyone that you're who you are... whoever you are."
Leaving her sore arm, she set to nibbling her nails to pry her brain of a plan.
"You know, most people only see what they want to see, the truth is to gory. Essentially, we'll have to dissuade them from following their precious savior, and persuade them to follow their own lead, as if we do take down the priest, the people will have nobody to follow, and the military will invade to attempt to stop any rebellion or confusion."
Rouin smiled at her concoction, then looked up at Hoenheim expectantly.
"So then, mister brains, do you have a name? Or even any idea what people like you want from life? 'Cause I think I have a plan, that is if you're willing to take my help."

"hmm... Sabastion will do, as well as any other, that is. We should be going now, are you cold by the---" Hoenheim had been looking at the stars up until this last comment, and as such had missed the blotchy yellow discoloration he knew to be an early onset of frostnip, which leads to frostbite. "My god! Your arm!" Hoenheim was up in a flash and had placed his hand on her arm before he could stop himself. A small amount of lightening leapt from his hands to her arms ans when he took his hands away her arm was healed. Hoenheim touched the ground and made a coat out of sand, an unequivalent exchange, and felt the sickening feeling of a soul going quiet inside him as it was used to fuel the transmutation. "put this on please, it's okay..."

Rouin stared unbelieving at the man, she was uncertain of what to do as she took the coat from Hoenheim, but she had a bad feeling, and it made her angry.
"How did you do that? How did you fix my arm? And by the way mister Sebastian... coats don't come from the ground! What did you just do?!"
She took several steps back and frowned, attempting to think of a logical explanation. She was getting very angry, as very few of her questions were given straight answers. Nonetheless, she felt the need to try.
"You don't have a tattoo do you? Or even an amulet? Even I know that you have to draw a circle before you perform alchemy. You shouldn't have done that... why would you do that?"
She put on the coat on, then looked at Hoenheim in the eye and glared. Rouin didn't like how close he was, or how he seemed to care, it only hurt her, she wanted nothing to do with attachment to another. She hated people hurting themselves or others to aid her, and she would have none of it.
"Whatever you did, don't ever do it again, at least not for me. I don't need that kind of help, or any help. I'll never need your pity, so don't act like you care, 'cause I know you have more important matters to tend to. Once I'm done with you, I'll leave, and that's the way I prefer it! That's the way it's always been!"
Sighing, Rouin thought sadly to herself before coming up with a conclusion as she attempted to calm herself.
"You're a strange man from another land, and you know many things I don't. Still, I have my doubts about you, as that priest supposedly could do the exact same thing. I'll just keep my eye on you, and you'll be careful alright? Then we can get some work done."
Trying to end the conversation on a more peaceful matter, she smiled and turned away to follow the railroads.
"It's a long way to Liore I'm sure. I don't know where it is, but I'll get there eventually. Aren't you coming?"

"I'm coming along, but Liore is that way... " Hoenheim Said pointing in the opposite direction the girl had taken... 'I'll have to make her a compass I suppose...' he thought as he got up and started walking at a light pace. " before I give you all those answers you want you'll need to see cornello first to understand."

Rouin frowned again, then looked at Hoenheim confused.
"Are you sure? That's got to be the wrong way! I uh... nevermind. I guess I really don't have any idea where it is. Oh well, you lead the way. But I'm still in charge! Got it?"
Embarrased, she followed Hoenhiem, hoping to retain 'leadership'.
"I did always find the places I wanted to go, it just took a while sometimes. Anyway, Cornello's the name of the priest guy, isn't it? Do you have any idea how to stop him? 'Cause all I can think of would be to win over his followers with politics and demonstrations. It's gonna take a lot of brain work to get this gig done right, without getting the military involved. Does Liore have police?"

Hoenheim smiled. " of course your still the leader, you the one with goggles. I could take him down now, but that wouldn't stop someone from springing up in his place. We can't talk to the people about this though or we'll be thrown out... I just need time to think, it's quite a sticky situation."

"Of course I know that, I'm not that bad off. We'll have to find someone suitable as a leader... that could take some time. Oh, and be sure your alias is believable, don't go pulling off little mistakes like you just did."
She smiled and began to race of towards Liore, then looked back and gave 'Sebastian' a smirk.
"You know, you're not to bright for a big old man... you're not to good at hiding your true self. I know you've probably done something bad, to be able to understand how corruption works, or how that kind of alchemy works. You might even know what the villagers would trade for their 'savior'. Maybe when we get to a safe place in Liore, you can tell me what you did and why. Till then, I'll be keeping my eye on you."
She gave a gloomy chuckle, then had an idea. She realized that she had not yet given Sebastian a name to call her, or at least an alias.
"You know, you should call me Shiren. It's not my name, and I wont tell you since you haven't told me yours, but it'll do. Oh, and you can call the hamster Hurley! Yes Ein, you are in disguise!!"
Rouin pulled the hamster out of her pocket and nodded smiling. Ein only stared, unsure of what was happening, and attempted to crawl back into her pocket and back to sleep. Rouin suddenly began to sniff her arm, where Hoenheim had touched it, then walked over to him and began to sniff him as well, a grim look on her face.
"Are you dying, Sebastain?"

Rouin sighed as her question was again, barely answered. She couldn't help but think back, remembering how her mother covered the scent of her death with similar fumes. Unable to further question the man at his pace, she shrugged and followed Hoenheim to Liore.
((Ooc: Alright, I'll be right there! Goodbye thread!))
