"His father," Oscar answered for her, glancing over at Alice as she doted on her son. "He passed away a few weeks ago."
Dante stepped into the dorm room. She and Scar had finished up a while ago, but she resolved to take a shower and freshen up afterwards. Noticing that Martel was on the phone, she merely gave her a nod of recognition before heading to her daughter's crib.
Dahlia was just waking up from her nap. Seeing her mother, she smiled and held her arms out.
"Hello there," Dante smiled at her daughter, picking her up. "All rested up, are we?"
Dahlia yipped like a small dog in response, then cuddled up against her mother. Her mother simply sighed and shook her head.

From her crib, Arden smiled at her friend and giggled softly. Dahlia was acting just like Bandit.
"Yeah....okay. So, I'll bring him in a few hours from now" Martel said as she hung up her cellphone. Looking at Nikolai, who was still awake, but just barely, she grabbed his bottle. This time, she managed to get him to eat, but when he fell back to sleep, only about a quarter of the formula was gone. Martel sighed and placed her son into his crib. "I just hope we can figure out what's wrong with you" she muttered.
Dr. Rafe-Kenist nodded and turned to Alice. "Your son should stay overnight so we can tell the severity of his injuries". Alice only nodded and lightly kissed Kyle's pale forehead.

Dante gently rocked her hyper daughter in hopes of calming her down. Fortunately, it worked: Dahlia stopped yipping and began to relax in her mother's arms. Noticing Arden, she gave her a wide smile and let out another yip, causing Dante to sigh in exasperation.
She overheard Martel speaking to Nikolai as she placed him in his crib. Curious, she looked over at her roommate. "Mmm? There's a problem with Nikolai?"
Oscar frowned as he watched Alice and Kyle. He had only been working at the hospital for about a week now, and was beginning to doubt if he would ever be able to accustom himself to such tragedies.

Martel nodded. "I think so, anyway" she told her roomate, frowning as she looked at the almost full bottle.
Arden smiled back at her friend and took two toy drumsticks from her plush's fanny pack. She began to drum on the bars of her crib. No real song, just random drumming patterns.

Dante looked down at the nearly full bottle and frowned lightly. Being an experienced mother, she knew that wasn't a good sign. "He isn't eating? That can be serious. It was wise of you to schedule an appointment."
Dahlia began clapping her small hands enthusiastically when her friend started drumming. All of a sudden, she stopped and closed her eyes, then started giggling hysterically.
Dante sniffed lightly, then narrowed her eyes and looked down at her daughter. "...Oh, for goodness sake. That isn't very ladylike, you know."
Dahlia just went on laughing, proud of her 'accomplishment.' Her mother sighed in annoyance and went to the changing table to take care of the mess.

"Yeah, for the past two weeks it's been harder and harder to wake him up to eat. And when he does wake up, he only drinks half the bottle, usually less" Martel said, placing the bottle down.
Hearing her friend laughing, Arden's drumming became more rapid. It sounded something like a mix between a rock ballad and a form of hip-hop.

Dante listened as she removed the dirty diaper from her daughter and tossed it in the nearby trashcan. She took a clean one from the box and slipped it on Dahlia.
"There's definitely a problem, I can tell you that much," she told Martel as she fastened the diaper around Dahlia's waist. After sanitizing her hands, she picked Dahlia up and turned back to Martel. "But I'm sure it's nothing that can't be taken care of."
Dahlia cheered as her friend went on drumming, and started wiggling around in her mother's arms. "Hold still, sweetheart," Dante pleaded as she tried to get a better hold on her rambunctious daughter.

"Well, I'm going to take him to see Marco in a little while. Riza said she would watch Arden while I was gone" Martel said to Dante. "Your daughter's definitely got plenty of energy" she mentioned, watching as Dante tried to regain control of Dahlia.
Suddenly, Arden threw her drumsticks over the rails of her crib on accident. When the small sticks didn't land in her hands, she yelped in panic. Instantly the young girl tried to search the crib for the drumsticks.

"A bit too much for me to handle," Dante grumbled as she finally got a hold of her daughter. When Dahlia started yipping like a dog again, Dante groaned. "Oh, for the love of..."

Martel stared for a moment in confusion as Dahlia began to bark. "Where'd she learn to do that?" she asked, raising an eyebrow in confusion.
No longer having interest in the drumsticks, Arden grabbed onto her Manic plush and pointed to her Sonic Underground DVD. Looking at Dante, Martel asked, "You mind if I put in a DVD for Arden?"

"I haven't the faintest idea," Dante sighed deeply as her daughter continued barking. "And go ahead."

Martel placed the DVD into the player and waited until it got to the main menu. She then selected the episode, "Mobodoon" and let the episode play. Arden smiled the moment the theme song began to play, laughing wildly whenever Manic came on the screen.
From under Arden's crib, Bandit answered Dahlia's yipping with a bark of her own.

Dante watched the episode as she rocked her wild daughter, hoping to calm her down. "...This has to be one of the dumbest things I've ever seen," she remarked, sounding mildly disgusted. "I can't believe people are actually paid to make this mind-poisoning tripe."
Dahlia, hearing her canine friend's response, reached out to Bandit and began barking rapidly while flailing about in her mother's arms.
Dante noticed this and glanced over at Bandit. Immediately putting two-and-two together, she walked over to the dog and knelt down in front of her. "So," she began icily, "you're the one behind all this insanity, are you?"

"Yeah, it's pretty stupid, but it keeps Arden from throwing everything around" Martel said, shaking her head at the screen.
Bandit wagged her tail, then, noticing the tone of Dante's voice, tucked it between her legs, whimpering softly.

Dante regarded the pup with a cold glare, then sighed and patted her on the head. "I suppose there's nothing I can do about it now. No use getting upset with you."
Dahlia had ceased her barking, and was now staring at the television screen in awe, captivated by the bright colors and anthropomorphic hedgehogs. She smiled and watched the show in silence.
Dante, noticing that her crazy daughter had finally shut up, looked from her daughter to the television. "....Well, that solves my problem."

Martel smiled slightly and looked at the clock. "Well, I gotta go" she said, picking up Nikolai. He stirred for a second as he was moved but quickly fell back into a deep sleep.
When her mother left, Arden whimpered slightly but stopped somewhat when the song of the episode- I Found My Home began to play. However, when it finished she continued to whimper.

Dahlia started crying hysterically when the show ended. She had only seen the last minute before the ending, and was so interested in it that she wanted to see more.
"All right, hold on," Dante told the two distressed children as she grabbed the remote from the bed. She went to the episode selection menu and began surfing through the episodes. Clicking on a random one, she set the remote aside and sat down on the bed.
"It seems I'm stuck here until Riza arrives," she observed, narrowing her eyes as Manic appeared on the screen. If Riza didn't arrive soon, she was going to kill her.

Arden smiled as the show began again. However, as the theme song ended, she went into a sneezing fit. When she finished she went back to quietly watching the show.
Back at the hospital, Martel was waiting for either Dr. Marco to show up or for someone to tell her where he was. Nikolai was still fast asleep, despite the screams of angry toddlers and fearful babies around him.

Riza came back into the room walking with Black Hayate beside her. "Hey... Dante.. how are you and Dahlia?" Riza asked. "What's wrong Arden? You seem to be pretty quiet" Riza said and sat in the floor. Black Hayate lay beside her, placing his head on her legs.

Arden smiled at Riza, then returned to watching the show. It may not be the greatest show ever, but it was pretty good to her. Suddenly, she went into another sneezing fit, laughing as she finished.
Dr. Rafe-Kenist ushered Alice out of the room. Once she was gone, he began to poke and prod Kyle. The young boy would murmer in protest sometimes, but stayed still.
