Yoki was in his rich mansion a good bit off from the main town, sipping a cup of tea. He was thankful he’d had his mansion built so far off from those FILTHY commoners. . .It would be an insult to his glorious presence if they were anywhere near him. Finishing his tea, he put the cup down and got up from his seat, giving a simple dismissive motion of his hand to a nearby maid to clean it up.
It was time to collect the taxes from his ever un-loyal subjects. Yoki considered going to groom his mustache, but decided to not bother. The peasants didn’t deserve to see him in tip-top condition. As a matter of fact, why must he even go himself? Why should he associate himself with such lowly people? It would be a far better choice to simply have someone else do it.
Yoki went to one of his subordinates and said “Would you mind going to gather the taxes for me? You know how rough and inconsiderate those disgruntled commoners can be. If they resist, feel free to require extra.”. The sergeant replied back to Yoki “But sir. . .We’ve already raised their taxes to-“, but was cut off by his superior. “Do I look like I care to you? Squeeze every last penny out of them!”. The sergeant saluted Yoki, then headed off to leave to carry out the duty.
Yoki placed his hand on his forehead and sighed. . .Why should he care about the well being of these people? This place could burn down to the ground for all he cared. This was only a temporary stop on Yoki’s way to power, with the money of the people of Youswell he’d buy an even higher rank. It’s how he’d obtained his current position, and it’s how he’d get to the top.
However; this was taking far too long. Yoki had already taken the majority of the money of the coal miners, and they was taking a considerable time for them to produce more. Considering he could have his men run the place with little problem, there was little point in Yoki personally overseeing the commoners. But what else could he be doing to make more money?
Perhaps if he were lucky, Yoki could get assigned to overseeing a different city. One with less filthy peasants that put up such annoying resistance. One where the people could actually make a decent amount of money for him. While it would be unlikely for Yoki to get any more then he currently had, there would be no harm done if they refused to give him anything else. He could just come back to Youswell and continue as if nothing happened.
After thinking a bit more on this idea, Yoki decided on it and told a few of his subordinate soldiers he’d be out of town for a few days. Of course, Yoki didn’t tell any of them his –real- intentions. Yoki went off on his way through the city to the train station. He got several ugly stares from the citizens of Youswell as he went by. . .Yoki did his best to ignore the “ungrateful low lifes” and arrived at the station. He bought a ticket for central, then went off on his way.
