Hayate continued to watch as Ed struggled with the hose. He uttered a small puppy chuckle at the trapped teen but began to grow bored quickly. He walked to the hose nozzle and tried to free the alchemist, but his binds did not want to give him up easily. The dog dropped the hose and looked at it curiously. Why won't it unwind? He began to bark at it angrily and slightly frightened.

Ed continued kicking when he realized that it seemed to only be making matters worse. "Grr, what do I do? My hands are not free enough to use Alchemy to free myself..." He said. Then he looked to the small dog. "Black Hayate...go get Hawkeye...she will help!" He commanded of the dog hoping he would understand.

[Chip]

The dog continued to bark at the hose until Edward spoke. He looked at the boy for a moment, thinking, processing, then dashed off in the direction of the office they had just come from. He sprinted most of the distance, but slowed to a walk near the end.
When he arrived at the door he ran at Riza and yelped at her. Come on! There's an evil hose on the loose! he growled in his mind, pulling at Hawkeye's pants. Still howling, Hayate ran back to the doorway and looked back towards where Ed was.

Ed watched the dog leave his sight, That dog better come back with Hawkeye... He thought to himself. He wasn't sure if the dog understood him or not, all he knew was that he was in trouble if he couldn't get free.

Then it hit him, "That dog better not come back with Mustang! I'll never hear the end of this one if that happens!" He yelled as embarrasement flooded his face. He hit his head against theh ground, "Why did this happen? Why why why?" He kept saying to himself.

"Hayate? What in the world are you doing here? Where's FullMetal?" Riza asked the dog. She watched as Hayate kept sprinting back and forth almost as if he wanted her to follow him. She sighed a bit. "Is FullMetal in some kind of trouble already, Hayate?" At the dog's assent, she sighed slightly again and turned to her superiors.

"Colonel Mustang, you should probably come with me, FullMetal being in trouble usually means something alchemical is going on," she said as she took off after a speedy Hayate.

Relieved that Riza had finally started to follow, Hayate dashed as fast as he could straight to Ed who was still bound by the hose. Instantly, the dog returned to barking at the hose, thinking it evil.

Ed continued to look at where Hayate ran off to. "Please don't come back with Mustang." He whispered outloud. He knew the sight of Fullmetal wrapped up by a hose would be all Mustang needed to make him the laughing stock of the military. He continued his struggle trying to just release his hands to transmutate the hose to help him out. He was able to free one of his hands, "There, that might be all I need." He said as he worked himself to his back and tried to clap. "Nope...not enough..." He said as he tried to free his other hand.

When Winrey arrived at the front steps of HQ she was surprised that Ed wasn't sitting there waiting for her. Hmm, I thought Ed would be here. Colonel Mustang must have something really important for Ed to do. Well, I might as well sit here and wait. It's better then being ignored by Al and Mr. Tucker. She was about to sit down when she heard someone grunting from alongside the building.
It sounds like someone needs help. I better go see if I can help them, they could be in trouble!
Winrey ran around the corner of the building and was shocked to see Ed tangled up by a very long hose. She burst out laughing.
"Ed, what are doing wrapped up in that hose?" Winrey said between laughs.

Hayate saw the girl emerge from around the corner and look at Ed. He had never seen this girl before. He began to bark angrily, not wanting an intruder on the grounds. The he saw her begin to laugh at the boy trapped by the hose. The dog stopped, sat down, and cocked his head at the girl. He looked back to see if Riza was coming, then just watched.

Ed stopped struggling and looked at Winrey. His face was flooded with embarrasment as he heard Winrey laughing. His face turned as red as an apple. He shook his head and saw his opportunity to escape without Mustang seeing. "Hayate tangled me..." He explained, "Hurry let me out before Mustang sees!" He finished as he looked over to where Hayate came from.

Winrey looked over at the sweet little puppy sitting by Ed and laughed. Aww poor Ed got over taken by a little puppy. Oh well, I better get him free or Mustang will have a field day if he sees him like this."Okay Ed, lets see what I can do." Winrey said with a smile on her face. She tried to pull the hose off Ed but every time she did, it just seemed to get tighter. Hmm , thats not working. What else can I do? Oh wait I know! Winrey dug in her bag and pulled out a very large, sharp pair metal cutters. "Ed, you better stay very still, I am sure you don't want me to cut anything else but the hose." She winked at him as she began to cut him free from the hose.

After Ed was cut free he sat on the ground, his face was still red from embarrasment. He looked to the ground, "This will not leave the two of us..." he spoke quickly to Winrey. He looked at the hose, "This isn't any good...I'll fix the hose..." He said as he used Alchemy to bond the hose back together. "Ok Black Hayate, let's get that bath done now..." He said as he turned on the hose. He looked to Winrey, "What are you doing here anyway? I thought you were with Al..." he asked.

After the girl freed Ed from the hose, Hayate couldn't help but jump around happily. He ran to her and tried to lick her face. The dog watched, a little shocked, as the alchemy fixed the hose. He had seen Mustang make fire, but he had never seen healing hoses or anything of that sort. He sniffed at the hose wearily. What the heck? Hayate looked up and began to wag his tail as Ed mentioned his bath.

Ed started pouring the water all over the little dog as he waited for Winrey to answer. He was quite worried why she was here and not with Al. He began to massage the shampoo into the dog's fur. He made sure it was gentle so that Hayate had the best bath he could.

Hayate stood still as Ed washed him. The steel hand was cold, even through the glove, but the dog quickly became used to it and was able to enjoy the bath to its fullest. He panted happily, his tail wagging, and licked Ed on the nose whenever he got too close.

Riza ran cautiously behind her pet. She let him move ahead so she could properly assess the situation before running head long into it.

She saw FullMetal wrapped up ridiculously in the hose and immediately began chuckling to herself. Thank god Roy never does anything quickly here at the office, otherwise he'd be seeing me crack up like a nut case right now. Since she assumed Hayate was the one to do this, she was silently proud of her little dog for being able to trap FullMetal. Maybe I could get Hayate to do that to the Colonel. Perhaps then he'd actually get his paperwork done on time and not be so late for work everyday.

She started laughing a little more loudly at that image. However, she stopped laughing when she saw the young woman help FullMetal escape the hose. Now she had a moral dilemma on her hands. Ed could get punished for having a civilian on HQ's property, but she seemed harmless enough. In fact, she seemed downright familiar. Maybe Ed had said something about this girl before.

In the Mess Hall.
The Colonal was enjoying a nice,flackey bisket,when he noticed the (so called)Full Metal Alchemist. Being defeated by a garden hose.While thinking to himself, "Why dosent' he just move and get out.He's so short that the slightest move could free him."
Luckliy he looked away just before Winrey came to aid Ed.

"It's okay, Ed. I will keep this our little secret." She laughed again.
Aww, the poor thing is so embarrassed. It's kinda cute.
"I am here because I was getting really bored at Mr. Tuckers. Besides I figured you would be waiting for us out on the front steps and I could get a chance to tinker with your automail while we waited for Al." She winked at Ed.
"Now I have a question for you. Why were you washing the puppy anyway? I thought Colonel Mustang would have you some important to do."

Ed's face flooded with despair as Winrey brought up Mustang. Ed grabbed the hose and rinsed off the little dog. "Yeah, this is what the good colonel thinks as an important job for the Fullmetal Alchemist..." Ed said sarcastically. He stood up again, "Well...better get started on the next thing on his list...what was it again?" He asked himself outloud as he looked at Hayate. He drooped as he remembered, "Oh yeah, clean out Hayate's cage..." he complained. "Come on, you can keep me company...and maybe keep Hayate under control...he generally likes to make this work hard for me." Ed said as he motioned Winrey to follow him.

Ed began walking and saw Hawkeye standing there, Oh man, she will have my hide about Winrey being here! He thought as he ran up to Hawkeye, "Sorry sir, my friend, she was with Al but she wanted to hang out with me...she will be no trouble..." He started saying standing tall in front of her, "Would you allow this one time for her to be with me as I do these ridiculous tasks of the Colonel?" He asked his superior.

Black Hayate shook the water off, sending it flying everywhere. Then he looked around and ran at Winrey. He sniffed her shoe and could smell another dog on her. With one more look at her face, Hayate decided she was safe. The dog jumped up at the girl and ran around her feet, hoping for attention.
